Technical Tips for Drycleaners
Removing Fugitive Dye Stains with Sanitone Platinum®
Your customers will appreciate your extra effort!
Dry Cleaners are often asked to “fix” items such as multi-colored bedspreads, comforters, duvets and seasonal table linens that show signs of fugitive dye stains caused when these items are washed at home.
It is not unusual for one or more of the dyes to loosen and migrate to other areas, even when the item is clearly labeled washable and your customer followed the wash instructions on the care label.
These items can usually be restored by soaking overnight in a strong solution of Platinum Advanced or Platinum EXtra Laundry Detergent and warm water.
The combination of color-safe bleach and low temperature activators in Platinum enable these types of stains to be safely removed while at the same time restoring the item to a bright, clean condition.
Immerse the item in a large container or commercial wetcleaning machine containing a solution of 4 ounces of Platinum per gallon of water and soak for up to 24 hours with periodic agitation if possible.
Use a water temperature commensurate with the safety of the fabric, usually between 85°F and 110°F. Soak for up to 24 hours with occasional and gentle agitation. Rinse, thoroughly several times to remove all detergent and then use a finishing agent such as Sanitone Revitalize or Elegant Care to enhance the surface finish of the item and to facilitate finishing.
